Step 1

Register your company

Get your business set up properly in New Zealand so you’re ready to import in your own name.

  • NZ company setup
  • Set up ready to import, so goods can be brought in under your business
  • Guidance on what you need in place before your first order

Step 2

Source direct from factories

I use contacts built at the Canton Fair, plus Alibaba and 1688.com, to find factories that fit your product, quality and budget. See where products are made in China and my Canton Fair guide.

  • Find and compare suppliers
  • Negotiate price and MOQ (minimum order quantity)
  • Samples before you commit
  • Quality checks before you pay

Step 3

Ship & clear customs

Freight sized to your order, with customs handled, all the way to your door. New importer? Read 5 things to sort before your first shipment.

  • FCL (full container) or LCL (shared container) sized to your order
  • CBM (cubic metres) worked out so you know the shipping cost
  • Customs import entries and clearance
  • Delivered to your door in NZ or the Pacific (Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands)

Step 4

Build your website

A clean, fast website that works well on phones, so customers can find you and get in touch or buy.

  • Mobile-friendly business website
  • Or an online store for selling direct
  • Set up to capture enquiries

Step 5

Market it & grow

Get your products in front of the right people and turn interest into sales.

  • Google Ads
  • Facebook & Instagram
  • SEO so you show up in search

Landed cost

Your real cost, worked out first

Before you pay a supplier, I add up every cost between the factory and your door so you know your landed cost per unit. How landed cost works.

  1. Factory price (USD or CNY)
  2. Exchange rate to NZD
  3. Freight: FCL or LCL, priced by CBM
  4. Duty & GST
  5. Customs clearance & port charges
  6. Delivery to your door

= Landed cost per unit
